Riding on the Boardwalk

Bikes are allowed on the Wildwoods Boardwalk in the morning only. The Wildwoods tourism site lists 5 a.m. to noon; the City of Wildwood has extended the cut-off in some seasons, so follow the hours posted at the Boardwalk ramps on the day you ride. North Wildwood has its own summer rules for its stretch. Ride slowly, ring before you pass, and watch for the Tram Car.

After the Boardwalk closes to bikes, the streets and the Wildwood Crest bike path take over. Our guide to the Wildwood Crest bike path covers the route along the beach to the south end of the island.

Three easy rides from our hotels

  • Boardwalk sunrise: from any of our hotels, ride to the nearest Boardwalk ramp at first light, cruise to the Convention Center end and back before the crowds. See our post on Wildwood sunrises.
  • South to the Crest: take the bike path south toward Sunset Lake in Wildwood Crest, an easy, flat ride.
  • Across the bay: bikes ride free on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry with a walk-on ticket, and Lewes and Cape Henlopen State Park are good riding on the Delaware side.

Where to stay with bikes

All five Coastal Collection hotels are a few blocks from the beach and the Boardwalk. Ask the front desk where to keep bikes overnight when you check in.

Visiting mid-October through April? Coastal Sands Inn is the Coastal Collection hotel open then. Book Coastal Sands. Beachside Resort, Sunrise Inn, Paradise Inn and Sunset Beach Hotel reopen in April.

Walk times from each hotel to the Boardwalk are on our Boardwalk hotels page.
